The Emirates FA Cup

So it’s Sunday and more football on the TV to ponder over! I notice that people are concerned about the lack of people at games over the weekend and very poor attendances.

This is no more evident at the Cardiff vs Fulham game where I am pretty sure a group of men and a small number of dogs made up the attendance figures. I would like to add 11:30 on a Sunday is a ridiculous time for a game of football, even the guys in the local Sunday League don’t kick off till twelve thirty.

The lack of atmosphere contributed to a truly terrible game which Fulham emerged victorious. I would doubt the fans who made the four hour trip from London would put this game as the away trip of the season.

The Argyle fans who put up with getting up at 5:30 this morning would have been hoping to watch some of Liverpool’s finest, some of the best in the Premier League. They wanted to watch Firmino, Lallana, Sturridge and the rest. Well they had to wait 70 minutes for Firmino and Lallana. They were called to find a winner for Liverpool as the plan to play the “others” against a half decent League Two side went to pot! I don’t think any Argyle fan who went to the game today will reminisce in ten years time and say “I went to Anfield in the FA Cup and watched the great Joe Gomez play!”

The game itself was pretty forgetful overall with Liverpool lacking the killer edge but at least the Argyle fans can have another go at seeing some stars in the reply at Home Park after the 0-0 result.

No such problems for Chelsea who hosted Peterborough United at Stamford Bridge at 3pm. It’s safe to say that if it weren’t for Luke McGee in the Posh goal it could have been a cricket score. It was a convincing performance from the Premier League leaders with goals from Pedro and Michy Batshuayi putting the Blues 2-0 up at half time.

Willian added the third before Nichols got the consolation for the Posh. Pedro added number four, the former Barca man looking like a Barca player with his first goal which was sublime. Let us forget the fact it was against Peterborough – it was sublime nonetheless.

Middlesbrough against Sheffield Wednesday was also on at 3pm. When there are no updates on a game from any of the sport broadcasters you know it’s bad. Grant Leadbetter scored the first before Negredo added a comical second which was a carbon copy of Rashford’s second for United yesterday. This gaffe was in between a red card for Ayala in a truly terrible game. Martin De Roon made it three-nil in the end to the Teesiders.

Spurs vs Aston Villa was the 4pm game. Vincent Jansen played like a pub striker, thank god for Harry Kane that’s all you can say. The standard was very poor and Pochettino had to call on Kane and Alli to save the day. In the end goals from Ben Davies and Son made it an easy win for Tottenham.

All in all, it was a very poor standard in the games so far today. I can’t wait for the Premier League to be back!
