Liverpool

So I’ve just read that Liverpool have slapped a £20 million price tag on their forgotten man Mamadou Sakho. Yes you heard it right, Mamadou Sakho! I’d forgotten him too to be perfectly honest. This is the same player who has managed to slip down the pecking order behind Ragnar Klavan, Dejan Lovren and even the most makeshift centre back possibly the Premier League has even been graced with, Lucas Leiva.

The 26-year-old French international has not played since April. Well, actually that’s a lie as I was fortunate to witness him playing for the Liverpool Under 23 squad against Chester FC in a behind closed doors match at the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium back in December. It’s fair to say that Liverpool’s defence that day had more cracks in it than the surface of the moon.

The odds are stacked against him that he is likely to leave the Merseyside club, with clubs such as Galatasary and Southampton supposedly taking an interest in the player. However, I highly doubt some clubs would swap a pack of Haribo’s for Sakho based on his performances for Liverpool over the time that he has spent at the club.

Sakho’s most memorable highlight of his playing career is undoubtedly when him and Blaise Matuidi dyed their hair a ridiculous blue and red colour to celebrate Paris St Germain’s first league title for nearly 20 years back in 2013 in David Beckham’s farewell game. Apart from that, Sakho is still to produce any other memories which will put him into people’s memory banks in years to come. Unless of course he plans another hairstyle as horrific as that at PSG.

However, if he remains at Liverpool I guess 4th place is their equivalent of winning the league as the chances of that happening are as likely as ‘fat’ Ronaldo brushing off his boots and winning World Player of the Year ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo for 2017…hmmm slim! One thing is for certain, if Sakho is in charge of their end of season party I think we all know he’d get the squad to commemorate their spot at the bottom of the pile of Premier League clubs to qualify for the Champions League.

Cue the open top bus and lots of red hair!
