Massive 3 points for the Toon
Last weekend saw a relegation six-pointer for the Toon against Southampton, who themselves are in a bit of trouble at the minute. It was always going to be one of the most important games left on our schedule, and we turned in a great performance when it mattered. Three goals and a clean sheet, all while dominating the match, made for one of our most important results of the season so far, taking us five points clear of the drop-zone.
At last a more attacking approach and it worked a treat, while also condemning Mauricio Pellegrino to the sack at Southampton. The morale has been lifted ahead of this weekend’s game against Tottenham, which in all probabilities will be one to try and defend for our lives and hope for the best. Then onto Huddersfield, a win against them would almost guarantee survival.
West Ham in Crisis
What is going wrong at the London Stadium? Fans haven’t been happy for a long time for a number of reasons, the owners and board being the most pressing. All of their frustrations came out in their 3-0 loss to Burnley, with Joe Hart making what has become a trademark mistake to concede the third.
The biggest talking point of the game wasn’t for the reasons you would expect though. During the second half, a few West Ham fans managed to get onto the pitch and cause havoc, venting their anger for all to see. Mark Noble was forced to defend himself by pushing one of them to the ground, while another idiot was running around with one of the corner flags! Some of the fans were throwing coins at the director’s box and ended up hitting one of the owners in the eye. They should be safe from relegation this season, but a big rebuilding job is on the cards there.
Carragher in Spitting Storm
You might not have heard but Man Utd beat Liverpool 2-1 at the weekend. The story that totally overshadowed that result was Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher being caught spitting at a Man Utd fan who was trying to have a bit of banter with him after the game. You must have seen the video by now, it’s an absolute disgrace. Granted, the fan shouldn’t have had his phone out while driving and will probably get a fine for his troubles, but Carragher will be lucky to keep his job. It’s such a shame that a legend of the game can get taken down like this, but he should have known better and he has no one else to blame but himself.
