Transfer deadline day has become something of a damp squib for Premier League clubs in recent years, with some clubs cautious about spending money mainly down to the PSR rules.
However, the 2024 summer transfer deadline day produced some high-profile moves involving Premier League clubs. Here are the most high-profile moves of the day:
Jaden Sancho (Manchester United to Chelsea, loan with an obligation to buy)
One of the most high-profile transfers of deadline day was Chelsea signing England international winger Jaden Sancho on loan with an obligation to buy next summer for a reported fee of around £25.5m if he hits specific targets.

The deal would mean a significant loss for Manchester United, who signed Sancho from German giants Dortmund for £73m in the summer of 2021.
The winger, who once dazzled at BVB, has struggled to recapture the form he showed at the German club. He even returned to BVB last summer on loan for the second half of last season.
Sancho will be looking to revive his career at Stamford Bridge after his highly underwhelming spell at United.
Raheem Sterling (Chelsea to Arsenal, loan deal)
Another England international looking to spruce up his career is Raheem Sterling, who joined Arsenal until the end of the season from Chelsea in a straight loan deal.
Sterling was out of favour at Chelsea, as Blues new head coach Enzo Maresca told the former Manchester City star he was not in his plans. He failed to make the Chelsea squad for their opening two games of the season.
The 29-year-old will be reunited with Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta. The pair spent time together at City when Arteta was the Citizen’s assistant head coach.
Trevoh Chalobah (Chelsea to Crystal Palace, loan deal)
The centre-back is another player who has fallen out of favour under Enzo Maresca’s regime at Chelsea. The 25-year-old was told he was surplus to requirements after being left out of the Blues pre-season tour to the USA.
Chalobah made 17 appearances for the club last season. However, despite his age, he has made just 58 appearances for Chelsea in the English top flight.
He could well prove to be an ideal replacement for Joachim Andersen, who left the Eagles to join London rivals Fulham earlier in the summer transfer window.
Manuel Ugarte (PSG to Manchester United, an initial fee of £42m potentially rising to £50.5M)
The Uruguayan international has joined Manchester United from PSG for an initial fee of £42m, which could possibly rise to £50.5m with add-ons.
The highly-rated central midfielder had been heavily linked with a move to the Red Devils for much of the summer. The 23-year-old only moved to the French capital in the summer of 2023 from Sporting CP. If he reaches all his targets in the add-ons, then the French club will make their money back on the midfielder.
Ugarte will certainly add some bite to the United midfield, as one of his main strengths is winning possession back from the opposition.
Scott McTominay (Manchester United to Napoli, £25.5m)
The Scotland international midfielder had been linked with a move away from United all summer, with the likes of Everton and Fulham previously linked with a move for the 28-year-old.
However, in the end, he joined former Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte at Napoli in a deal worth around £25.5m. The arrival of Ugarte would have likely affected his minutes on the pitch for United.
Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal to Southampton, an initial fee of £18m plus add-ons)
The England international has joined newly promoted Southampton for a fee of around £18m, with a possible £7m in performance-related add-ons.
Ramsdale was the Gunners’ number one until the arrival of Spanish goalkeeper David Raya from Wolves last summer. Raya impressed at the north London club, and Ramsdale spent the season warming the Gunners bench.
With Southampton one of the favourites to suffer relegation, Ramsdale could well be a busy man this season as he aims to recapture the form that saw him earn a big move to Arsenal in the first place.
Eddie Nketiah (Arsenal to Crystal Palace, £30m)
Another player leaving Arsenal is academy product Eddie Nketiah, who has headed for capital rivals Crystal Palace in a £30m deal.
The striker struggled ever to nail down a regular starting berth with the Gunners. However, he showed flashes of his ability in front of the goal, scoring 38 goals in 168 appearances in all competitions. Many of those appearances were only cameos off the bench.
At Palace, he may finally get the chance to really get his career off the ground by starting on a regular basis.
Reiss Nelson (Arsenal to Fulham, loan deal)
The third player to leave the Gunners on transfer deadline day is homegrown winger Reiss Nelson, who has joined London rivals Fulham in a loan deal.
Nelson was also in talks with Premier League new boys Ipswich Town. However, the 24-year-old decided to make the temporary move to Craven Cottage.
He has made 90 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal. However, like Nketiah, many of those appearances were not starts. Nelson also had loan spells with Hoffenheim in Germany and the Dutch giants Feyenoord.
Armando Broja (Chelsea to Everton, loan deal)
The highly-rated Albanian international was heavily linked with a temporary move to Premier League new boys Ipswich Town. However, the on-off move collapsed, and Everton secured the forward on loan for the rest of the season in the dying embers of the window.
There is an option for the Toffees to buy the forward for £30m next summer if he impresses.
The 22-year-old was highly regarded at Chelsea, but injuries have hampered his progress in south west London. Unfortunately for the player and the Toffees, he heads to Merseyside with an injury that will sideline him until October.
James Ward-Prowse (West Ham to Nottingham Forest, loan deal)
The midfielder has made the move to Nottingham Forest in a straight loan deal. Ward-Prowse only joined the Irons last summer for a fee of around £30m from relegated Southampton.
The 29-year-old enjoyed a decent season, scoring seven times in 51 games in all competitions. Despite his solid numbers in his debut season with the capital club, he doesn’t fit into the style of play of West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui.
Ivan Toney (Brentford to Al Ahli, undisclosed fee)
The forward had been linked with a number of moves in the summer, including to Chelsea (but then again, who hasn’t been linked with the Blues this summer!)
However, the wantaway forward got his move on deadline day, as he joined Saudi Arabian Pro League club Al Ahli for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around the £30m mark.
