Since the First Division rebranded to the Premier League in 1992, the English top flight has housed some of the most lethal forwards in the beautiful game.

These are players who are not just happy to get on the scoresheet but score multiple goals in games. However, which player has scored the most hat-tricks in the history of the Premier League?

Sergio Aguero (12 hattricks in 275 Premier League appearances)

The Manchester City legend scored 184 in 275 appearances for the Citizens in the English top-flight from 2011 until 2021, with 27 goals coming from the penalty shot. Among those goals were 12 hat-tricks, which is a league-high.

The diminutive Argentine forward’s goals were also enough to take him to the top of the club’s all-time leading goalscorer chart, having 260 goals in 390 appearances in all competitions. He won the Premier League Golden Boot award in season 2014/15.

Alan Shearer (11 hat-tricks in 441 Premier League appearances)

The former England captain enjoyed a Premier League career from 1992 until 2006. He started his Premier League career at Blackburn Rovers, where he scored 112 goals in 138 appearances before completing a dream move to boyhood club Newcastle United in 1996.

Shearer remained loyal to the Magpies, scoring 148 top-flight goals until his retirement in 2006. The forward was a penalty kick specialist, scoring 57 times from the penalty spot in his career.

The former Southampton star is the Magpies’ top goalscorer in all competitions, having found the net 206 times in 405 appearances.

He won the Premier League Golden Boot on three occasions in seasons 1994–95, 1995–96 and 1996–97.

Robbie Fowler (9 hat-tricks in 379 Premier League appearances)

The forward, who earned the nickname ‘God’ at Liverpool, scored a highly impressive nine hat-tricks during his 379 Premier League appearances.

Fowler scored 183 top-flight goals altogether, the majority of which were for Liverpool, 128 to be precise. The forward also played for Leeds United, Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League.

The product of the Reds youth academy is seventh place on the Merseysiders all-time goalscorers list.

Erling Haaland (8 hat-tricks in 82 Premier League appearances)

The Norwegian international forward has been a goalscoring sensation in the Premier League since joining from Dortmund in 2022. He has scored 76 goals in 82 appearances in the English top-flight.

Haaland was the quickest player to reach 50 Premier League goals, having reached the mark after just 48 appearances in the English top flight. He was also the player who reached the 75-goal mark the quickest in just 77 appearances.

The forward recorded back-to-back Premier League Golden Boots in seasons 2022–23 and 2023–24. His 36-goal haul in the 2022/23 season is the highest goal tally in a single season of a 38-club Premier League campaign.

Thierry Henry (8 hat-tricks in 258 Premier League appearances)

The former France international is Arsenal’s all-time record goalscorer with 226 appearances in 370 appearances. His 176 Premier League goals included eight hat-tricks and 23 penalty kicks.

Henry scored 30 Premier League goals in season 2003/04, which is a joint Arsenal record for most goals scored in a Premier League campaign, shared with Robin van Persie.

As well as being prolific in the Premier League, Henry won the European Golden Shoe award in seasons 2003–04 and 2004–05.

Harry Kane (8 hat-tricks in 320 Premier League appearances)

The England captain came through the youth system at Tottenham and was prolific from 2013 until 2023, when he left for German giants Bayern Munich, where he has also proven lethal in front of goal.

During his Tottenham career, Kane scored 213 top-flight goals and 280 goals in all competitions for the north London club. He scored eight hat-tricks in his Premier League career.

Kane proved his goalscoring prowess with Spurs by winning the Golden Boot award on three occasions in seasons 2015–16, 2016–17 and 2020–21.

Michael Owen (8 hat-tricks in 326 Premier League appearances)

Having come through the Liverpool youth system, the former England international also played in the Premier League for Newcastle United, Manchester United and Stoke City.

Owen scored 150 goals in the English top flight, including eight hat-tricks, while 14 goals came from penalty kicks.

The forward won the Premier League Golden Boot on two occasions in seasons 1997–98 and 1998–99. His goals helped Owen to win the Ballon d’Or in 2001.

Wayne Rooney (7 hat-tricks in 491 Premier League appearances)

Rooney started his Premier League journey at his boyhood club, Everton, making his debut at the tender age of just 16 in 2002. In 2004, he made a £30m move to Manchester United.

It was with the Red Devils that the forward became a legend, scoring 253 goals in 559 appearances in all competitions, making him United’s all-time leading goalscorer.

During his time with United, he scored six Premier League hat-tricks. His final hat-trick of his top-flight career came in a second spell at Everton in a win over West Ham in season 2017/18.

Luis Suarez (6 hat-tricks in 110 Premier League appearances)

The Uruguayan international joined Liverpool from Ajax in January 2011. Suarez went on to score 69 goals in the English top flight, including six hat-tricks, before making a big-money move to Catalan giants Barcelona in 2014.

Suarez is unique on our list, as he is the only player to have not scored any of his Premier League goals from penalty kicks.

The forward won the Premier League Golden Boot in his last season at Liverpool, having scored 31 goals in 33 appearances. He also won the European Golden Shoe in the same campaign.

Raheem Sterling (5 hat-tricks in 385 Premier League appearances)

Sterling has become something of a journeyman player in the Premier League, having played for Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and most recently Arsenal.

In his 385 Premier League appearances, the England international has scored 123 goals. He has scored 174 goals in 559 appearances in all competitions for his various clubs.

Sterling was awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2021.
