Simon Bloch Jørgensen tallest players

Over the years, footballers have come in all shapes and sizes, as players of different dimensions can be helpful in various scenarios. Tall players are particularly in demand for certain positions, though.

In fact, many players of a larger stature have made it to a decent level of the beautiful game. There has been much argument over who the tallest players are to play the game. However, these are the players considered to be the world’s tallest players ever:

Jonathan Mertsch (2.14 meters / 7 feet 0.25 inches)

The giant forward is regarded as the tallest football player ever, standing at 2.14 meters or 7 feet 0.25 inches. Mertsch has been prolific in front of goal for the German amateur club Edermunde.

Although he has yet to play football professionally, he is still at the beginning of his career, so he may still make it into the game.

Simon Bloch Jorgensen (2.10 m / 6 ft 10 ½ in)

Like countryman Mertsch, the goalkeeper is likely more famous for his height than for his football ability. He stands at 6 ft 10 ½ in.

However, unlike his compatriot, Block Jorgensen has played football at a relatively high standard. He has played for Frem, B.93, and B1908 Amager in Denmark and for several non-league clubs in England, including Accrington Stanley. Jorgensen last played for the English non-league club Waltham Abbey in the 2021/22 season.

Kristof Van Hout (2.08 m / 6 ft 10 in)

The giant Belgian goalkeeper played his youth football at Lommel, Geel and Willem ll. During his senior professional career, Van Hout played for Kortrijk, Standard Liege, Genk and Westerloo in his homeland while also enjoying a stint in Indian football with the Delhi Dynamos (now called Odisha FC).

The 6ft 10-inch star enjoyed success with Genk, helping his team win the Belgian Cup in the 2012/13 season. He also had a decent record at Kortrijk, keeping 15 clean sheets in 45 outings for the West Flanders club. Van Hout retired in the summer of 2023.

Paul Millar (2.08 m / 6 ft 10 in)

The Scottish forward is most renowned for two spells with Elgin City, for whom he made over 65 appearances and scored 56 goals from 2010 until 2014.

Unfortunately, injuries plagued the forward, the worst of which was an ACL injury sustained in 2013 in a 4-2 home win over Clyde F.C, a game in which he had scored a brace.

Before joining Elgin in 2010, Millar played for the RAF Men’s Senior Team. The Scottish club scouted him after he impressed in a friendly game against them.

Although he has not officially retired, the forward has now been without a club since leaving Deveronvale in December 2021.

Martin Brennan (2.08 meters / 6 ft 10 in)

The goalkeeper came through the youth system at Premier League Tottenham Hotspur before joining Charlton Athletic in 2000. He moved on to Cambridge United in 2002 after not playing for the Addicks. He made just one solitary appearance for Cambridge before moving on once again.

He also had spells with Welling United, Stevenage Borough and Dagenham and Redbridge. However, he made just one further first-team appearance for the latter before hanging up his gloves after the 2004/2005 season.

Brennan moved into coaching and worked at Tottenham Hotspur, Wycombe Wanderers, and Fulham. In 2016, he joined the coaching staff at Leyton Orient but wasn’t with the capital club for long, as he joined Hampton and Richmond Borough in 2017 and was registered as a player. Brennan never played but was named on the substitutes bench on three occasions.

Two years later, he joined his current club, Boreham Wood’s backroom staff, and in 2020, he was once again registered as a player but only making the bench.

Tonny Brogaard (2.06 meters / 6 ft 9 in)

Brogaard is another player on our list who played as a goalkeeper during his career. The 6ft 9 in Dane started his youth football career at Brondby but moved to Frem in 2004. He made four appearances for the Danish team, three in the second tier and one in the Oddset Pokalen, conceding 12 goals in his outings.

He moved on to other clubs, including English outfit Doncaster Rovers. However, except for the games for Frem, there is no other record of Brogaard making any other first-team appearances, with his last club being AB Taarnby, who he left in July 2015.

Isaak Toure (2.06 meters / 6 ft 9 in)

The highly-rated young defender is the only one on our list to have played in any of Europe’s top five leagues. Toure, who is 6ft 9 in, came through the youth ranks of Le Havre in his native France.

He broke into Le Havre’s B team in 2020, making four appearances. Toure impressed for the club’s second team, and between 2020 and 2022, he made 18 appearances for the senior team.

Toure’s massive potential was spotted by French giants Marseille, who snapped up the defender in the summer of 2022 for a fee in the region of £4.5m. He made five appearances for OM in the first of season 2022/23 before a loan switch to Auxerre in the January transfer window. He was a regular for Auxerre, making 19 appearances.

Toure was on the move again in the summer of 2023, when he made a permanent move to Lorient for a fee of around £7m. The French club loaned the giant defender to Serie A club Udinese for the 2024/25 season, and he has featured regularly there.
