Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed relative success in the Premier League in the last decade. Although they may not have won the English top-flight title, they have regularly finished in the Champions League spots in recent years.

Several players have inspired Spurs to crucial victories in the Premier League era. However, which players have been the most prolific players for the north London club in recent years?

Harry Kane (213 goals scored in 317 Premier League appearances)

The England international was, without a doubt, the team’s talisman until his exit to German giants Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023.

Having come through the club’s youth system, Kane was quite simply a goal machine, scoring an impressive 213 goals in 317 Premier League appearances.

He enjoyed the most prolific Premier League season of his career in seasons 2017/18 and 2022/23.

The forward didn’t just score goals, though. He also produced 48 assists for the north London team in the English top flight.

Kane never won silverware with Tottenham. However, he did pick up several individual awards. He won the Premier League Golden Boot in seasons 2014/15, 2020/21 and also 2022/23. The forward was also named PFA Fans Player of the Year in season 2016/17.

Heung-min Son (118 goals scored in 298 Premier League appearances)

The South Korean international has become a key player for Tottenham since a £22m move from German club Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.

Although Son struggled to find the net in his first season, scoring just four top-flight goals, he has since scored double figures in the Premier League in the last eight seasons.

His most prolific campaign came in season 2021/22 when he scored 22 top-flight goals, sharing the league’s Golden Boot with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

Like his former teammate and Kane, Son has also been adept at creating goals for his teammates, having picked up 61 assists in the Premier League.

Teddy Sheringham (96 goals scored in 236 Premier League appearances)

The forward enjoyed two spells with Tottenham from 1992 until 1997 and 2001 until 2003. Sheringham first joined the north London club from Nottingham Forest for a fee of around £ 2.1 million in 1992.

In his first spell at the club, there was only one season out of the first five in which he failed to score 13 or more Premier League goals. After four years with Manchester United, he returned to Spurs and got double figures in both the 2001/02 and 2002/03 seasons.

Sheringham won the Premier League Golden Boot in the competition’s first season in its current guise, scoring 21 goals in 38 appearances. The campaign was his most prolific in the English top flight.

Jermain Defoe (91 goals scored in 276 Premier League appearances)

Like Sheringham, Defoe had more than one stint at Spurs, playing for the north London club between 2003 and 2008 and from 2008 until 2014.

The diminutive striker’s most prolific campaign of his Tottenham career in the top-flight came in season 2009/10 when he found the net 18 times in 34 appearances. The campaign was the most prolific of his career at any club.

Defoe won the Tottenham Player of the Year in 2004, which is the only honour he won during his two stints at north London club.

Robbie Keane (91 goals scored in 238 Premier League appearances)

The Republic of Ireland icon also enjoyed two stints with Tottenham in the Premier League. Keane first joined Spurs from Leeds United for a fee of around £7million in 2002.

In his first six seasons with Tottenham, Keane never failed to get into double figures for goals.

The most prolific campaign of the forward’s Spurs career came in the 2005/06 season when he scored 16 times in the English top-flight. The tally was his highest in English football for any single season.

Keane picked up the Tottenham Player of the Year award on three occasions in 2003, 2006, and 2008.

Gareth Bale (54 goals scored in 166 Premier League appearances)

The Welsh legend joined Spurs from Southampton in the summer of 2007 for an initial fee of £ 5 million plus future add-ons that could rise to £10m.

Despite arriving in north London as a left-back, Bale soon found himself converted to a left-winger. He spent six seasons with Spurs, with his most prolific being the 2012/13 season when he scored an impressive 21 goals.

The campaign was the last in north London of his first spell. Bale joined Spanish giants Real Madrid the following summer for a world record £85million.

The winger went on to enjoy a trophy-laden eight years with Los Blancos, during which time he won the Champions League five times and the Spanish title three times, among numerous other trophies.

Bale returned to Tottenham for a loan spell in 2020/21, scoring ten goals in 20 appearances. By this point, the winger’s career was on a downward path after injury and fitness issues.

The former Wales international is one of the few players on our list to win silverware with Spurs, as he was part of the Tottenham squad that won the League Cup in 2008.

Christian Eriksen (51 goals scored in 226 Premier League appearances)

The Dane arrived at Tottenham in August 2013 from Dutch giants Ajax in a deal reported to be worth £ 11 million. It turned out to be money well spent, as Eriksen played a crucial role in Tottenham establishing themselves in the Premier League’s top-four.

Eriksen spent seven seasons in north London and became known more for his assists than his goalscoring abilities, as he produced 67 assists during his Spurs career. His goal tally of 51 goals in 226 appearances is not bad for a midfield player.

The midfielder’s career at Spurs was close but not close enough to winning trophies. He finished as runner-up in the 2015 League Cup final and was part of the Spurs team that lost the 2019 Champions League final to compatriots Liverpool.

On an individual basis, Eriksen won the Tottenham Player of the Year award in seasons 2013/14 and 2016/17.
