Sergio Aguero

As we all know, Manchester City has become a winning machine in the Premier League in the last decade. In recent years, they have become the dominant force in the English top flight.

The players who scored those all-important goals are at the heart of that success. However, which players have been the Citizen’s most prolific in front of goal in the Premier League?

Sergio Aguero (184 goals in 275 appearances)

The diminutive Argentinian international is not only City’s leading Premier League goalscorer but also the club’s top goalscorer of all-time in all competitions, firing home an impressive 260 goals in 389 appearances in his long City career from 2011 until 2021.

He is the only City player of the Premier League era to be on the club’s all-time record goalscorers list.

Aguero’s goals helped the men from Manchester win the Premier League title on five occasions. His last-gasp goal against QPR in a 3-2 win on the last day of the 2011/12 season to win City the title is now regarded as one of the most memorable of the new era of English football.

In season 2014/15, Aguero won the Premier League Golden Boot, as found the net 26 times in 34 appearances.

Raheem Sterling (91 goals in 225 appearances)

The England international was prolific for the Citizens but is often overlooked when people talk about City’s dominance of the English top flight in recent years, as he didn’t always start as Pep Guardiola rotated his squad.

However, the former Liverpool star played a crucial role in City’s success in his seven years at the club from 2015 until 2022, when he joined Chelsea.

His overall goalscoring record of 131 goals in 339 appearances in all competitions is a respectable one for a wide player.

The highlight of his City career was playing his part in the Citizens winning the Premier League title on four occasions. On an individual level, Sterling also won the FWA Footballer of the Year award in the 2018/19 season.

Kevin De Bruyne (65 goals in 242 appearances)

The Belgian international has etched his place in the history of the Premier League as one of the best midfielders of the current era. Some argue that he is the best midfielder of his generation.

The former Chelsea midfielder has not only scored 65 Premier League goals during his City career but also produced an incredible 106 assists.

Only two players have produced more assists in the Premier League era, Ryan Giggs and Cesc Fabregas.

Not only has De Bruyne won the English title five times and the Champions League with City, but he has also been crowned PFA Players Player of the Year on two occasions in seasons 2019/20 and 2020/21.

David Silva (60 goals in 309 appearances)

The former Spain playmaker is a modern-day Manchester City legend, as proven by the fact that the midfielder has a statue outside the Citizens’ stadium, the Etihad.

He endeared himself to City fans and Premier League fans in general because of his magician-like ability with the ball at his feet.

Like his former teammate De Bruyne, Silva was highly creative for City, producing 93 assists during his decade as a City player. He produced the most assists in the English top flight in season 2011/12.

Over a decade, his impressive displays for City saw the Spanish star named in the Premier League Team of the Season on three occasions in seasons 2011/12, 2017/18 and 2019/20.

Yaya Toure (59 goals in 230 appearances)

The giant Ivorian joined City in 2010 from Barcelona and enjoyed eight successful seasons in Manchester. He reinvented himself as an attacking midfielder with City, as he played a more defensive role in Catalonia.

Toure scored 59 goals in the English top flight from the centre of the park, with his most prolific campaign coming in the season 2013/14 when he scored 20 times in the Premier League.

The season was a revelation, as only former Chelsea great Frank Lampard had reached 20 goals from midfield.

Toure was not just a goalscorer, though, as he also produced 35 top-flight goals for his teammates.

The midfielder picked up a number of honours during his time in Manchester, winning the Premier League three times, amongst numerous other silverware with the Citizens.

He was also named in the Premier League Team of the Season twice in the 2011/12 and 2013/14 campaigns while also winning the club’s Player of the Year award in the latter campaign.
